In information visualization and graphic design, Truchet tiles (first described in a 1704 memoir by Sébastien Truchet) are square tiles often decorated with computer-generated patterns that are not rotationally symmetric. When placed in a square tiling of the plane, they can form varied patterns, and the orientation of each tile can be used to visualize information associated with the tile's position within the tiling (Wikipedia). In this particular example, my friend and collaborator Daniel Catt (@revdancatt on Instagram or www.liinks.co/revdancatt) created a truchet tile pattern generator that creates the most wonderfully eye catching pattern, called his 70s Pop Pattern! I then milled this pattern into Black walnut and inlaid it in Brass adding in my Copper Pig Logo. The tray frame is made from New England air-dried Black Walnut. Finished in food safe shellac and/or wax. Approximate dimensions 14”L x 8”W x 1”H.
